I think we create unnecessary disappointment in our lives when we super impose our expectations over the top of Gods plan.
There is nothing that opposes the work Christ did on the cross more than when we try to establish our value and worth based on our own work.

In Gods kindness He points out our sin issue because He wants us free from that junk. But if we can’t admit we have a role in the fight, we will never overcome it.
